Program Highlights
- New Media and Global Education: The program of study engages the learner in constructivist learning environments and global learning communities. Emphasis is placed upon cultural diversity and the analysis of new media environments from a global perspective. Particular emphasis is placed upon the analysis of new media in light of educational, cultural and social forces within a digital global network. The program of study is international in scope, drawing upon scholars and students from Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United States. The language for the program is English. The New Media and global Education program concentrates on the structure, organization, and development of learning environments as an effect of the new networked digital media. Students in the online program will develop the foundation skills to digital media production, instructional design, evaluation, and course and program development for distribution over the Internet. Graduates of the program have moved into business, college teaching in various content areas, distance education administration, doctorate programs, web development ventures, and K-12 teaching.
- Media Literacy: The media literacy concentration develops the technical and intellectual skills to successfully utilize and critique traditional and emerging mass media formats and information technologies. Particular emphasis will be placed upon the impact and influence of media content and format on school and society, students and citizens. Attention will also be given to the subject of media audiences and media ownership. The program is open to anyone, but is particularly relevant to teachers in several areas of the curriculum. Identified as one of the so-called 21st Century Skills, media literacy is studied in relation to the mission standards of organizations such as The National Middle School Association, the National Council for the Social Studies, and the National Council for Teachers of English, among others. Graduates of the program will be prepared to foster media literacy initiatives, projects and curriculum development in a variety of educational settings.
- Media Production: Students gain knowledge and skills in the design, production and evaluation of education/instructional media for a variety of careers in business, industry and education. Emphasis is placed on design and production of media and technology that will effectively meet communication needs in the teaching/training process.

Minimum Criteria for Unconditional Admission* for the Media Literacy, Media Production, and New Media and Global Education concentrations: 3.0 UGPA in last 60 hours and GRE scores; OR UGPA < 3.0 but > 2.7 and one of:
- GRE Verbal + GRE Quantitative = 800
- MAT score of 349
- 3.5 GRE Writing score and either GRE Verbal or Quantitative score of 400
Minimum Criteria for Unconditional Admission* for the Instructional Technology/Computers concentrations: GPA and GRE or MAT scores. No minimums have been established.
*Meeting this condition guarantees consideration of admission. In exceptional circumstances and with special permission from the Graduate School a limited number of students who do not meet this minimum may be granted admission.
