Penalties for Non-Compliance
Violating export control regulations carries serious criminal and civil penalties. Due to the current global climate surrounding scientific knowledge of weapons and chemical research, violations are deemed a threat to national security.
To avoid violating the EAR, ITAR, and OFAC, familiarize yourself with the regulations and make sure that your research falls under one of the exceptions or exemptions for university teaching and research.
If you have any questions about the legality of your research or a disclosure, contact the Graduate School, consult the resources on export controls available through this site and on the Web, or contact the Office of the University Attorney.
This section of the site outlines the penalties that may result from non-compliance to the EAR, ITAR, and OFAC.
