Orientation for On-Campus Graduate Students and Graduate Assistants
Back to Newly Admitted Students >
Welcome to Appalachian! You are joining more than 900 graduate students taking courses on campus in Boone and 900 graduate students taking courses at physical locations all over northwestern North Carolina and at virtual locations all over the world. We urge you to attend orientation to acquaint yourself with policies and procedures and to meet and greet other graduate students!
Fall Orientation: Sunday August 24, 2 pm at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center and Monday August 25, 9 am in IG Greer Auditorium
The August 24th graduate studies orientation session will be held at 2 pm at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center. Click here for a PDF map showing the location for this orientation and for the student-run session on Monday (25th).
Susan Triplett and I will lead the graduate studies orientation session. We will be discussing policies and expectations for graduate students, including how those policies differ from those you followed as an undergraduate. You will have an opportunity to meet other incoming graduate students and hear a little about campus life for graduate students. The session should take about 90 minutes. The session is not highly formal, so wear comfortable clothes, and come prepared for the weather. To check weather conditions, you can click on the weather icon on the Appalachian homepage: http://www.appstate.edu or try out http://www.booneweather.com.
The student-run orientation session on Monday, August 25, at 9 am in IG Greer Auditorium will be about campus life; we hope you can attend that session, too.
If you have questions about orientation or about getting ready to start classes as a graduate student at Appalachian, here are the contacts at the Graduate School:
Susan Triplett (TriplettSW@appstate.edu), Graduate Student Services Coordinator 828-262-2130
Holly Hirst (HirstHP@appstate.edu), Associate Dean for Graduate Studies 828-262-2130
Be sure to touch base with the contact person (usually the program director) for your graduate program if you haven't already done so. That person can help you with determining a schedule for your first term, and can answer other questions about your particular program.
Good luck with your studies here!
