Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q:  Is on campus housing available for graduate students?
A: On campus housing is extremely limited with top priority being given to married students, students with children, and international students. Please contact Housing and Residence Life for more information on Mountaineer Apartments if you are interested.
  • Q:  How do I find out about housing in the area?
A: Please visit the Social Order of Graduate Students (SOGS) housing webpage for a listing of housing opportunities and roommate opportunities.
  • Q:  How can I find out more about Academic Common Market?
    A: Please visit Appalachian's ACM homepage .
  • Q:  How can I find out more about Peace Corps Master's International Programs?
A: Please visit Appalachian's Peace Corps MI homepage.
  • Q:  I'm applying to a program in the College of Education and have a 3.0 GPA or better for my undergraduate degree.   Does that mean that I don't need test scores?
A: No.   All applicants must submit official test scores.   Most programs in the College of Education do not have a minimum score requirement if the last 60 hours GPA on the undergraduate degree program is 3.0 or better.   However, the scores are required to complete your application and may still impact the departmental review process.
  • Q:  My undergraduate degree is from Appalachian. Does that mean that I don't need to request transcripts to be sent?
A: Former students of Appalachian do not need to submit official transcripts for their Appalachian course work. However, transcripts from other institutions attended are required.
  • Q:  I am an international student, and I have visited the web site and read all procedures. Is there any way I can be admitted to the University with condition that I take the required test(s) (GRE, GMAT, or TOEFL) after I enroll?
A: An application to the Graduate School is not considered complete without all required documents, including official test scores.  International applicants who can document that they are unable to take an exam because of geographic location may contact the program to request .
