The Master of Arts in Middle Grades Education leads to the graduate-level "M" Grades 6-9 licensure and has been approved by the appropriate bodies at the state level to meet the advanced competencies as mandated in the NC Excellent Schools Act for Master-level teacher education programs. This nationally recognized program is open to qualified students who hold a valid "A" teaching license (though the "A" license does not have to be in middle grades).

- You can enroll in this progrma through the Office of Extension and Distance Education and take all of your coursework at selected off-campus settings throughout western NC.

Concentrations: Language Arts; Mathematics; Science; Social Studies
Location of instruction: on and off campus Specific locations of off-campus cohorts can be obtained from the Office of Extension and Distance Education
Required Entrance Exam: GRE or MAT (score must be no more than 5 years old)
Required Number of References to specify in the on-line form: 3

Deadlines for Application. A program not open for a particular term will be marked with an "x." If the program has early screening dates, those dates are listed in parentheses. Applications that are not complete by the early screening date risk denial of admission due to no seats available. Increased enrollment may lead to a term being closed for new applications.

Basic Criteria for Consideration: 3.0 GPA in last 60 hours and GRE scores; OR 2.7 GPA and one of:
- GRE Verbal + GRE Quantitative = 800
- MAT score of 349
- 3.5 GRE Writing score and either GRE Verbal or Quantitative score of 400
