The new Master of Social Work (MSW) Program at Appalachian State University seeks to educate social workers who can contribute to the growth and success of the profession through skills in advanced clinical practice, leadership and supervision, community development and advocacy, and innovative program planning and administration.  Graduates will be qualified to provide advanced social work practice to individuals, families, organizations, and communities.

Program Highlights

  • As a full-time on-campus student, you can expect to complete the program in 2 years
  • There is a part-time off-campus cohort based program available in Hickory

Application Essentials

Concentrations: Community and Organizational Management; Individuals and Families

Location of instruction: On and off campus. Specific locations of off-campus cohorts can be obtained from the Office of Extension and Distance Education

Required Entrance Exam: GRE (score must be no more than 5 years old)

Required Number of References to specify in the on-line form: 3

Supplemental Information: Resume (Required upload for application submission); personal statement (upload on the Additional Information page in the on-line application)

Applications that are not complete by the early screening date risk denial of admission due to no seats available .Increased enrollment may lead to a term being closed for new applications.

Basic Criteria for Consideration: UGPA = 2.5 with 3.0 in last 60 hours; (UGPA x 400) + GREV + GREQ = 2000
