Orientation for On-Campus Graduate Students and Graduate Assistants

Welcome to Appalachian! You are joining more than 1000 graduate students taking courses on campus in Boone and 900 graduate students taking courses at physical locations all over northwestern North Carolina and at virtual locations all over the world. We urge you to attend orientation to acquaint yourself with policies and procedures and to meet and greet other graduate students!

NEW THIS YEAR: To avoid a long orientation session with lots of "talking head" presentations, we have streamlined the session to 60-90 minutes, and are sending to all new confirmed students a series of Virtual Orientation Emails; let us know what you think!

The Sessions for Spring 2010

  • Graduate School: Friday, January 8, 3:30 - 5 PM in room 114 in the Belk Library and Information Commons
  • Your Home Department will have a session as well, and you should check with your advisor or department contact for the time and location. Don't know who that is? Contact us! (gradadmissions@appstate.edu)

The Details (Map, Parking, etc.)

Click here for a PDF map. You can park in the Rivers Street Parking Deck (small fee) or in the Hill Street Lot (longer walk).

The session is not formal, so wear comfortable clothes, and come prepared for the weather. To check weather conditions, you can click on the weather icon on the Appalachian homepage: http://www.appstate.edu or try out http://www.booneweather.com.
