Information for Students Taking Courses Off Campus
Welcome to the Graduate School.
Through the Office of Extension and Distance Education and the Appalachian Learning Alliance, the Graduate School offers several graduate degree and certificate programs and licensure programs through multiple locations in North Carolina as well as online instruction. The Appalachian Learning Alliance is a partnership between Appalachian State University and ten regional community colleges in western North Carolina. Off campus and online instruction is provided by graduate faculty members of the University and the coursework taken is credited through Appalachian. One of the primary differences in off campus offerings is with respect to cost and financial support since these programs are designed for part-time enrollment. Students can also utilize the services (online and on campus) of the Belk Library and Information Commons.
Students in off campus programs must meet the same program requirements as on campus students. This includes filing the Program of Study early during enrollment and applying for graduation when the program is near completion. Off campus students are welcome to participate in the commencement ceremonies held in May and December of each year in the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone.
